Darryn Lee- Cosmetic Art Surgeon

Artist Darryn Lee has a vision……“The purpose of my art is to release an attraction to the viewer and to arouse their imagination.” Lee studied portrait painting in Trinity College, Dublin, then moved to Florence, Italy, to continue his studies at the Academia de Bella Arte. Upon his return to Ireland he received critical acclaim with his work in the Arnotts National Portrait Award, AIB Young Artist of the Year and exhibited in The Blue Leaf Gallery, Dublin. Lee obviously has a natural born talent, but it is the provocative nature of his style and his blatant use of words with the image that has placed him above others. His work generally carries a heavy erotic charge whether his models are clothed or naked. While his images are always sexy and striking, Lee’s mantra is “always make a person look as good as possible”. This is how he has earned himself the title of “Cosmetic Art Surgeon”. Lee will nip/tuck, augment and enhance, using his brush as a scalpel. “I don’t want to show flaws. I don’t want to show wrinkles. I want my models to look like stars. I want to look at them and lust after them.” Darryn cites renowned celebrity photographer David La Chapelle and controversial artist Jeff Koons as influences. “I love any kind of exhibitionist or crazy person,” says Lee. "Beauty, fantasy, mystery..... and sensuous erotica.....in every piece, masterful. He’s very much a creator rather than just an observer”.
